- 3-Fluoro-4-nitrotoluene is a chemical that belongs to the class of nitro compounds. It is used as an intermediate for the synthesis of beta-cyclodextrin, which is a cyclic oligosaccharide that has been found to be effective in inhibiting influenza virus. 3-Fluoro-4-nitrotoluene can be produced through the reaction of formaldehyde with sodium nitrate and hydrofluoric acid in a liquid phase. This reaction takes place at room temperature and produces a yield of about 50%. The production of this compound is also efficient and inexpensive. Synonyms: 2-Fluoro-4-methyl-1-nitrobenzene; 2-fluoro-4-methyl-1-nitrotoluene; 3-fluoro-4-nitrobenzene; 2-Fluoro-4-methyl-1-nitrobenzene; 3-Fluoro-4-nitrotoluene; 5-Methyl-2-nitrofluorobenzene; 2-Fluoro-4-methylnitrobenzene; NSC 25756; m-Fluoro-p-nitrotoluene; 4-Methyl-2-fluoro-1-nitrobenzene CAS No: 446-34-4 Molecular Formula: C7H6FNO2 Molecular Weight: 155.13 Appearance: As reported Purity: ≥98% 1H-NMR Spectrum: Conforms to reference Melting Point: 52-55°C (lit.)
