- 4-(Dimethylamino)butanal is an impurity that is found in the synthesis of amide ester hydrochlorides. It is a white, crystalline solid. The synthetic process for this compound starts with the reaction of ethyl orthoformate and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). This reaction produces 4-(dimethylamino)butanal and 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone. The amide ester hydrochlorides are then obtained by reacting 4-(dimethylamino)butanal with a base such as triethylamine or pyridine. 4-(Dimethylamino)butanal has been shown to have affinity for 5-ht1 receptors, which are found in the brain and gastrointestinal tract. Synonyms: 4-Dimethylamino-butyraldehyde CAS No: 104459-70-3 Molecular Formula: C6H13NO Molecular Weight: 115.18 Appearance: Light yellow liquid Purity: ≥96% Solubility: As reported Storage and Stability: Store at 4°C under inert atmosphere. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap.
