- Keratins are a family of intermediate filament proteins that assemble into filaments through forming heterodimers of one type I keratin (keratins 9 to 23) and one type II keratin (keratins 1-8). The two keratin types share only 30% sequence homology.1-5 Keratins demonstrate tissue- and differentiation- specific expression profiles. Cytokeratin 18, also known as keratin 18, is a type I intermediate filament protein of approximately 48kD. It exists as a heterotetramer composed of two type I and two type II keratins. Cytokeratin 18 is expressed in all simple type epithelia and basal cells of many squamous and non-epidermal epithelia, and is often co-expressed with cytokeratin 8.6-8 Tissues from the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory tract and urogenital tract, as well as endocrine and exocrine tissues and mesothelial cells are positive for cytokeratin 18. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunohistochemistry: 10ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Store product at 4°C if to be used immediately within two weeks. For long-term storage, aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable at -20°C for 12 months after receipt. Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. Caution: FITC conjugates are sensitive to light. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
