- The caspases are a family of cysteine proteases that induce apoptosis in response to a variety of intra- and extracellular stimuli. These enzymes are synthesized as inactive precursors which become cleaved at aspartate-specific sites upon induction of apoptosis.1Caspase-1 (ICE) is found in many cell types and is predominantly localized to the cytosol and to a lesser extent on the cell surface membrane.2 It was originally identified for facilitating apoptosis via cleavage of pro-IL-1b into the mature and active form and during CD95-induced cell death. Moreover, additional studies have linked caspase-1 to inflammation through its activation of several cytokine pathways including IL-1b and IL-18, as well as to septic shock.2,5,6 The monoclonal antibody detects a band at ~45kD, corresponding to the full length form of caspase-1. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1-5ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
