- The c-kit proto-oncogene encodes a transmembrane receptor with tyrosine kinase activity, c-kit (CD117), also known as stem cell factor receptor (SCFR), which is closely related to the platelet-derived growth factor receptor family. The c-kit oncoprotein plays a role during normal hematopoiesis, gametogenesis and melanogenesis. It is expressed in among others normal breast epithelium, melanocytes, mast cells and glial cells. Defects in c-kit are a cause of several diseases, such as gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), and testicular germ cell tumor. Also acute myelogenous leukemia (AML), a malignant disease in which hematopoietic precursors are arrested in an early stage of development, is related to mutation in c-kit. As a result, the antibody to CD117 is suitable the characterization of certain leukemias. Applications: Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry and Immunocytochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunohistochemistry (frozen): 1:20-1:40 Immunocytochemistry: 1:20-1:40 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Hybridoma: p3-NS1-Ag4-1 myeloma cells with spleen cells from Balb/c mice. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
