- Albumin is a soluble, monomeric protein which comprises about one-half of the blood serum protein. It functions primarily as a carrier protein for steroids, fatty acids, and thyroid hormones and plays a role in stabilizing extracellular fluid volume. Albumin is synthesized in the liver as preproalbumin which has an N-terminal peptide that is removed before the nascent protein is released from the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The resulting product, proalbumin, is in turn cleaved in the Golgi vesicles to produce the secreted albumin. At least two isoforms of Albumin are known to exist. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1-2ug/ml Immunohistochemistry (Formalin fixed paraffin embedded): 2.5ug/ml Immunofluorescence: 20ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: Mouse Liver Tissue Lysate Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
