- Claudin-1 is a member of the claudin family of proteins, which is composed of at least 24 members. Claudin proteins are integral membrane proteins with 4 transmembrane regions and 2 extracellular loops that form tight junctions. Tight junctions function as a channel and a barrier to maintain cellular morphology, polarity, and homeostasis between epithelial cells. Claudin-1 is a main component of tight junctions and is sorely responsible for normal barrier function of the skin. Misregulated expression of Claudin-1 has been shown to be associated with cancer progression and metastasis in several cancers. Claudin-1 has been found to be overexpressed in neoplasia associated with inflammatory bowel disease. Mutations in Claudin-1 gene lead to human skin diseases and Claudin-1 deficient mice die soon after birth due to dehydration. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 0.5-2ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
