- Extra Details:
- Galectin-3 is a soluble B Beta-galactoside binding protein, widely distributed in the heart, kidney, liver, lung and intestinal tissues and organs. Galectin-3 has a variety of biological functions, it can bind to a variety of ligands on the cell surface and extracellular matrix, and plays an important role in a series of physiological and pathological processes, including apoptosis, adhesion, proliferation, migration, inflammatory response, immune response, and fibrosis processes. In atherosclerosis, cardiac remodeling and myocardial fibrosis, Galectin 3 is abnormally overexpressed and secreted into the blood circulation. Galectin 3 can also enhance platelet aggregation, adhesion and retraction, and promote thrombosis. It is widely believed that it is involved in the growth and spread of cancer cells, can induce the secretion of protease in intestinal cancer cells, enhance the aggressiveness of cancer cells, and reduce the integrity of the epithelial mesenchyma between cancer cells. It is up-regulated in liver cancer and involved in the occurrence and development of liver cancer. It is also related to the occurrence and development of many diseases such as organ fibrosis, chronic inflammation and scar formation.
