It is expressed specifically in the testis and epididymis (11165476). Spz1 is a specific binding partner of the gamma2 catalytic subunit of Phosphatase-1c-gamma (PP1c-gamma). The interaction between Spz1 and PP1cgamma2 may be required for proper regulation of spermatogenesis and fertility in males.
