- PNMT, also known as phenylethanolamine N-methyltransferase, is an enzyme found in the adrenal medulla that catalyzes the last step of the catecholamine biosynthesis pathway, which methylates norepinephrine to form epinephrine (adrenaline). The enzyme also has beta-carboline 2N-methyltransferase activity. This gene is thought to play a key step in regulating epinephrine production. Recombinant PNMT protein was expressed in E. coli and purified by using conventional chromatography techniques. Recombinant corresponding to human PNMT, 1-282aa, expressed in E. coli (NP_002677).
