- Rat CD4 cell surface glycoprotein is a 55kD molecule expressed by helper T cells and weakly by monocytes. Monoclonal antibodies clustered as CD4 detect most thymocytes and a subpopulation of peripheral blood T cells, called T helper cells (Th). In addition, CD4 is expressed on monocytes and macrophages. The CD4 antigen is a 55kD glycoprotein which plays a role in the recognition of foreign antigens presented to T cells by MHC class II molecules. Furthermore, CD4 acts as a receptor for HIV-1 by binding the viral protein gp120. Applications: Suitable for use in Flow Cytometry and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Flow Cytometry: 1:100-1:200, Use 10ul to label 10e6 cells in 100ul. Immunohistochemistry: Frozen and paraffin. Reacts with paraffin-embedded material following PLP fixation (periodate-lysine-paraformaldehyde). For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
