- AMPK is a highly conserved heterotrimeric protein kinase found in all eukaryotes. The heterotrimeric complex exists as multiple isoforms and consists of a catalytic alpha subunit, which is stabilised by non-catalytic regulatory beta- and gamma- subunits. AMPK plays a vital role in maintaining cellular energy homeostasis and is activated by rising levels of AMP under conditions of hypoxia, ischemia, exercise, low glucose levels. AMPK may play an important role in the control of type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndromes. Recent studies suggest that AMPK functions as a suppressor of cell proliferation of both malignant and normal cells. Applications: Suitable for use in FLISA, Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry, Immunoprecipitation and Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Western Blot: 1:100-1:1,000. Detects a band of ~63kD in rat brain cell lysates. Immunohistochemistry: Frozen sections Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Store product at 4°C in the dark. DO NOT FREEZE! Stable at 4°C for 12 months after receipt as an undiluted liquid. Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. Caution: PE conjugates are sensitive to light. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap. Note: Applications are based on unconjugated antibody.
