- Ankaflavin is a reddish pigment produced by Monascus sp. first reported by Manchard and co-workers at London University and Taiwan National University in 1973. Ankaflavin is structurally closely related to monascin. Ankaflavin has cytotoxic, immunosuppressive, hypolipidemic and antiinflammatory properties. Source: Penicillium sp. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with methanol or DMSO. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
