- The Alpha 2a- Adrenergic Receptor functions as a post-synaptic receptor that mediates the effects of epinephrine and norepinephrine. This adrenoceptor also functions as a presynaptic autoreceptor, inhibiting the subsequent release of neurotransmitter, especially epinephrine, from sympathetic nerves and from adrenergic neurons in the central nervous system. Adrenergic Alpha-2A Receptor polymorphisms have been identified in individuals with Tourette's syndrome. Furthermore, increased levels of plasma norepinephrine have been noted in children with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and learning disabilities. Mutant mice lacking both Alpha 2a and Alpha 2c Receptors exhibited increased plasma noradrenaline and developed cardiac hypertrophy by four months of age. Applications: Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence, ELISA, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunofluorescence: 1:100-1:500 ELISA: 1:20,000 Western Blot: 1:500-1:1000 Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin): 10ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
