- C3d is a component of complement. Cell-bound C3b may undergo limited proteolysis to release the fragment C3c and retain C3d on the membrane. The protein is isolated and purified from pooled normal human serum by precipitation techniques, followed by chromatographical methods. Freund's complete adjuvant is used in the first step of the immunization procedure.
