- Alanine (Ala) is a non-essential amino acid, which is one of the 20 basic amino acids that make up proteins. The chromogenic substance has a maximum absorption at the wavelength of 450 nm, and the Ala content in the sample is calculated by measuring the OD value at 450 nm and the standard curve.
