- Amyloid Beta Peptide 1-40 (AB Beta40) is one of the primary proteolytic products of the amyloid precursor protein (APP), generated through sequential B Beta- and G Gamma-secretase cleavage. As a major soluble isoform of amyloid beta, AB Beta40 is produced at higher levels than AB Beta42 and plays a central role in Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology. Although less aggregation-prone than AB Beta42, AB Beta40 contributes significantly to neurodegenerative processes by participating in early oligomer formation, interacting with neuronal membranes, and influencing metal-dependent oxidative stress pathways that can impair synaptic function and cellular viability.
