- Bml 259 is a potent inhibitor of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5)/p25, with additional inhibitory activity against Cdk2/cyclin E. Cdk5 is a critical regulator of neuronal development, synaptic function, and neurodegeneration. Aberrant activation of Cdk5, particularly through its association with p25, has been implicated in tau hyperphosphorylation and neuronal death in Alzheimer's disease. Bml 259 is used in neuroscience to explore the pathological role of Cdk5/p25 signaling and to evaluate neuroprotective strategies targeting kinase dysregulation.
