NMDA receptors are critical for synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory, but their overactivation leads to excitotoxicity-a major contributor to neuronal death in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's, Huntington's, and ALS. D-AP5.Na is widely used in neuroscience to study NMDA receptor-mediated signaling and to explore neuroprotective strategies by blocking calcium influx and excitotoxic damage.
