A related factor, OSP-1, also binds to this sequence. Members of the GATA family share a conserved zinc finger DNA-binding domain but differ in their patterns of expression. GATA1 plays an important role in erythroid development by regulating the switch of fetal hemoglobin to adult hemoglobin.
