- High density lipoproteins (HDLs) play a critical role in cholesterol metabolism and their plasma concentrations are inversely correlated with risk for atherosclerosis. The SR-BI binds HDLs and mediates selective uptake of HDL cholesteryl ester. SR-BI binds HDL with high affinity, is expressed primarily in liver and nonplacental steroidgenic tissues, and mediates selective cholesterol uptake by a distinct mechanism. In mice, it seems that SR-BI plays a key role in determining the levels of plasma lipoprotein cholesterol and the accumulation of cholesterol stores in the adrenal gland. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunoprecipitation, Immunocytochemistry and Immunofluorescence.. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Western Blot: 1:1000. KO Validated: Immunofluorescent analysis of SR-BI localization in aorta of Tie2-Scarb1 x Scarb1-KO and Scarb1-KO mice. Mouse aorta sections were stained for SR-BI (a and d, red). In several EC stained for SR-B1 red color was present on both apical and basolateral sides. There is no red signal in aorta from Scarb1-KO mice. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: HL-60 cells Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
