- Sodium tetradecyl sulfate is an alkyl sodium sulfate anionic surfactant, wetting agent and emulsifier used as a sclerosing agent (Sotradecol, Trombovar) to treat varicose veins and as a surfactant (Tergitol 4). It is typically handled as a 27% solution in water and acts by causing endothelial damage to blood vessels.
