- Matrix metalloproteinase 17 (MMP17) is a zinc metalloproteinase that is an integral membrane protein (1). It belongs to the membranetype MMP (MTMMP) subfamily, and is also known as MT4MMP. It is associated with the cell membrane by a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor (1). It has the potential to function as a protumor necrosis factoralpha (TNFalpha) convertase (2). Unlike MMP14 (MT1MMP), it is a poor activator of proMMP2. MMP17 is relatively poor at digesting components of the extracellular matrix but does cleave fibrinogen and fibrin (2). MMP17 is known to activate the aggrecanase ADAMTS4 through proteolysis (3). MMP17 is expressed in many tissues with the highest levels seen in the brain, colon, ovary, testis, and kidney papilla (4). It has been detected in several human cancers, including gliomas, prostate carcinomas, and breast carcinomas (5). Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized powder may be stored at -20°C. Stable for 12 months at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile PBS. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
