This enzyme regulates the synthesis of inositol tetraphosphate; and downstream products; inositol pentakisphosphate and inositol hexakisphosphate. Inositol metabolism plays a role in the development of the neural tube. Disruptions in this gene are thought to be associated with neural tube defects.
