Genetic variations in Angiotensinogen are associated with susceptibility to essential hypertension; and can cause renal tubular dysgenesis; a severe disorder of renal tubular development. Defects in the encoding gene have also been associated with non-familial structural atrial fibrillation; and inflammatory bowel disease.
