- The full name of MMP-9 in Chinese is matrix metalloproteinase 9. The MMP-9 gene is located on chromosome 20q11.1-13.1, 26-27kpp, with 13 exons and 9 introns. It belongs to the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family. The main function of MMP-9 is to degrade and reshape the dynamic balance of extracellular matrix. The homology of MMP-9 mRNA in mammals is about 80%. MMP-9 can decompose structural complexes such as ECM and basement membrane in the respiratory tract and lungs, thus participating in the reconstruction of the respiratory tract and lungs. It can also regulate the activity of other proteases and cytokines. It can degrade alpha 1 antitrypsin, protect neutrophil elastase activity, enhance collagen cell and MMP-13 sol-gel activity in collagen colloids. MMP-9 can also break down a 62 amino acid peptide from interleukin-8 (CXCL8/CL8), increasing its chemotactic activity towards neutrophils by 10 times, but it also inhibits other neutrophil chemotactic factors. In addition, MMP-9 binds to CD44 to release stored TGF - B Beta 1, and MMP-9 can participate in angiogenesis by releasing vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).
