In addition,hemopexin blocks heme activation of immune receptors and vascular inflammatory processes. It is mainly expressed in liver,the synthesis of which is induced after inflammation. Alterations of plasma hemopexin level have been linked to disorders like atherosclerosis and inflammatory diseases.
