- Norepinephrine (INN name: Norepinephrine, also known as Noradrenaline, abbreviated NE or NA), also known as norepinephrine, is a substance formed after the removal of N-methyl group of adrenaline, and also belongs to catecholamines in chemical structure. It is both a neurotransmitter, mainly synthesized and secreted by sympathetic postganglionic neurons and adrenergic nerve endings in the brain, which is the main transmitter released by the latter, and a hormone, synthesized and secreted by the adrenal medulla, but in smaller amounts.
