It is homologous with the mouse peptide. In some animal models, cognitive impairment and neurodegenerative disorders that mimic Alzheimer's disease can be reproduced by intracerebral or intracerebroventricular administration of beta amyloid peptide. Evidence suggests that oxidative stresses are involved in the mechanism of beta amyloid-induced neurotoxicity and Alzheimer?s disease pathogenesis. Exposure to beta amyloid increases lipid peroxidation, protein oxidation, and the formation of hydrogen peroxide in cultured cells. Beta amyloid peptides are also used to study oxidative stress, metal binding and mechanisms of protein cross-linking in Alzheimer?s disease and neurodegeneration. \nReferences \n1.
