- TGF-β2 (Transforming Growth Factor-β2) is a multifunctional cytokine within the TGF-β superfamily. It is secreted in an inactive precursor form and requires activation, through proteolytic cleavage or under acidic conditions, to bind to cell surface TGF-β receptors (TβR-I/II). This interaction initiates both Smad-dependent and non-Smad signaling pathways, ultimately regulating the expression of target genes. Functionally similar to TGF-β1, TGF-β2 is extensively involved in key physiological and pathological processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and immune regulation.
