- IL-2 (Interleukin-2) is a cytokine belonging to the chemokine family. It is produced by multiple cell types (primarily by activated T cells) and exhibits pleiotropic effects, most notably promoting lymphocyte growth, proliferation, and differentiation. It plays a vital role in immune responses and antiviral infection processes. IL-2 stimulates the proliferation of T cells that have been primed by specific antigens or mitogenic signals, activates T cells to enhance cytokine production, promotes NK cell proliferation and cytotoxicity, induces the generation of LAK (lymphokine-activated killer) cells, supports B cell proliferation and antibody secretion, and activates macrophages.
