- Desmin is a muscle-specific class III intermediate filament. Homopolymers of this protein form a stable intracytoplasmic filamentous network connecting myofibrils to each other and to the plasma membrane. Mutations in this gene are associated with desmin-related myopathy; a familial cardiac and skeletal myopathy (CSM); and with distal myopathies.

- It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Desmin in sterile 18MΩ -cm H2O not less than 100 ug/ml; which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
Lyophilized Desmin although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks; should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution Desmin should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0. 1% HSA or BSA).
