Cleaves and activates sterol regulatory element binding proteins (SREBPs). Can also promote apoptosis. Upon inflammasome activation; during DNA virus infection but not RNA virus challenge; controls antiviral immunity through the cleavage of CGAS; rendering it inactive (PubMed:28314590).
