Accepts a variety of oxo-acids as amino-group acceptors; with a preference for 2-oxoglutarate; 2-oxocaproic acid; phenylpyruvate and alpha-oxo-gamma-methiol butyric acid. Can also use glyoxylate as amino-group acceptor (in vitro) (By similarity).
