- Source : Human 293 Cells;CD163 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to group B of the cysteine-rich scavenger receptor family. The expression of CD163 is essential and is induced by glucocorticoids; IL-10; IL-6; or endotoxin on circulating monocytes; tissue macrophages. CD163 plays an important role in the clearance of hemoglobin-haptoglobin (Hb-Hp) complexes in the liver; spleen and circulation. A soluble form of CD163 exists in plasma; commonly known as sCD163. sCD163 is generated by ectodomain shedding of the membrane-bound receptor. sCD163 is upregulated in a wide range of inflammatory diseases including liver cirrhosis; type 2 diabetes; macrophage activation syndrome; Gaucher's disease; sepsis; HIV infection; rheumatoid arthritis and Hodgkin Lymphoma.
