- Wezlana (Ustekinumab-auub) is a biosimilar to Stelera. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved Wezlana (ustekinumab-auub) as a biosimilar to and interchangeable with Stelara (ustekinumab) for multiple inflammatory diseases. Ustekinumab is a fully human IgG1 monoclonal antibody that binds with specificity to the shared p40 protein subunit of human cytokines interleukin IL-12 and IL-23; which are involved in immune and inflammatory responses. IL-12 and IL-23 are produced by activated antigen-presenting cells as secreted heterodimeric cytokines that bind to receptor complexes in natural killer cells and T cells. Ustekinumab can effectively neutralizing both human IL-12 (Th1)-mediated and IL-23 (Th17)-mediated cellular responses.
