It is specific for the genus Chlamydia and reactive to all species: C. trachomatis; C. pneumoniae & C. psittaci. Antigen: LPS Background: Chlamydia is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STI) worldwide. It is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis; a gram-negative; obligate intracellular bacterium that primarily infects the genital tract; but can also cause infections in the eyes; lungs; and other parts of the body. Chlamydia can cause serious health problems if left untreated; including infertility in women and men.
