- Specificity:Anti-Cryptosporidium (Clone CSPOR-2715) is specific for the oocyst cell wall glyco-antigen (periodate sensitive). It is non-reactive with Giardia lamblia; Candida albicans & human cells. Background: Cryptosporidium is a genus of parasitic protozoa that can cause a diarrheal illness known as cryptosporidiosis in humans and animals. It is a waterborne pathogen and is transmitted through the ingestion of infectious oocysts; the dormant and infective stage of the parasite; found in contaminated food and water; or through direct contact with infected individuals or animals. Once ingested; the oocysts release sporozoites that invade the intestinal lining; leading to inflammation and diarrhea. Cryptosporidiosis can be particularly severe in individuals with weakened immune systems; such as those with HIV/AIDS or undergoing cancer treatment. The disease is widespread and has been associated with both sporadic cases and outbreaks; especially in settings with inadequate water treatment and sanitation facilities. Antigen Details
