Mice lacking the encoded protein exhibit reduced thermogenic capacity, hyperactivity and resistance to diet-induced obesity. Mice lacking the encoded protein specifically in the heart exhibit peripartum cardiomyopathy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
